Class description: At SHP Health we are passionate about women’s health, providing women with the knowledge and skills to empower them to be more confident in improving strength and function of the pelvic floor and core in the immediate future and for years to come.

This workshop is an ideal introduction for women of any age who want to find out more about the function of the pelvic floor, how to effectively engage it, how to optimise strength, function and to combine this with breathing control and movement. Led by our experienced Women’s Health Physiotherapist, this is education combined with a pelvic floor focussed Pilates workshop.

1.    Education on the pelvic floor and diaphragm function and relationship with each other

In the first half of the workshop, specialist Women’s Health Physiotherapist, Becca Hull, will explain the function of the pelvic floor, where it is and how to engage it. We will discuss the critical roles a healthy pelvic floor plays in everyday life, movement, exercise and with age related changes too. We will learn about the relationship of the pelvic floor with the diaphragm and how to utilise this relationship through breathing control techniques to get the most out of our core function.

2.    Enjoy an hour of Pilates specifically designed for the pelvic floor
In the second hour, Becca will guide you through an hour of matwork Pilates. You will be led through Pilates movements designed to incorporate the techniques learnt in the workshop and start putting them to practice providing you with the tools and building blocks to work with at home and in every day life.
